Laboratory Safety Rules and Expectations
Safety First! l Rules must be followed at all times. Abuse of equipment or disruption will result in dismissal from the lab with an alternate assignment. l In your notebook, write your own lab safety rules. What rules do you think there should be when we are doing a lab?
Lab Safety Rules l 1. Science time is NOT play time. NO HORSEPLAY OR PRACTICAL JOKES. l 2. STAY at you assigned work table unless directed to move; then MOVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY.
Lab Safety Rule Con’t l 3. SPEAK QUIETLY!!!! By the nature of lab work, students all over the room must be talking with their lab partners at the same time. No one should need to talk louder to be heard because of the voice levels at the next table.
Lab Safety Rule Con’t l 4. While standing, CHAIRS MUST BE UNDER DESKS MUST BE CLEAR except for the lab equipment and lab sheets.
Lab Safety Rules Con’t l 5. Listen to ALL teacher instructions and stay quiet while instructions are being given. A blow of the whistle means to immediately stop talking and listen.
Lab Safety Rules Con’t l 6. Do ONLY the experiments described by the teacher.
Lab Safety Rules Con’t l 7. Wear goggles and gloves when asked to do so, and do not take them off until asked to do so.
Lab Safety Rules Con’t l 8. CLEAN WORK AREA after the experiment. Specific instructions will be given by the teacher as to how to clean up from each lab.
Lab Rules Con’t l 9. If you are EVER unsure about anything, raise your hand ask the teacher. l 10. If something breaks or spills, don’t clean it up until you tell the teacher. l 11. Stay on task and worry about your lab, not your friends lab.
