Laboratory Rules and Safety 1. Always follow the teacher’s directions and only do lab work when a teacher is present. 2. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times. 3. Do not eat food, drink beverages, or chew gum in the lab.
Laboratory Rules and Safety 4. Before starting any lab, Remove all of your jewelry and watches. 5. Report ALL accidents and injuries to your teacher immediately!!!
Laboratory Rules and Safety 1. Lab coats (with sleeves rolled down and all buttonsbuttoned) must be worn. 2. Lab coats protect your regular clothing from dirt and non- obvious contamination in the lab. 3. Lab coats protect your skin from spills and splashes that occur in the laboratory.
Laboratory Rules and Safety Gloves 1. Wear the correct gloves when needed. ✖ Vinyl Gloves Vinyl gloves are a popular choice for the food industry. Are good for short-term, low-risk tasks. Latex (natural rubber) Good for biological and water-based materials. Poor for organic solvents. Little chemical protection. Can cause or trigger latex allergies ✔ Nitrile Excellent general use glove. Good for solvents, oils, greases, and some acids and bases. Clear indication of tears and breaks.

If you look down and see a swath of skin showing, your shoes are not appropriate. Shoes should fully cover the top of ones feet. Shoes with holes (Crocs) or mesh are not allowed. Students without proper footwear will be asked to leave the lab.

Laboratory Rules and Safety Hazardous chemicals 2 - If ANY chemicals, particularly acids, get on your skin or clothes, rinse the area with water, IMMEDIATELY! Then notify your teacher. 3 - Never smell any chemical directly from it’s container. 4 - Keep all lids closed when chemicals are not in use. 5 - Never touch or taste any chemical.

Laboratory Rules and Safety 1. Always maintain a clean work area. 2. Always clean glassware thoroughly before putting it away. 3. If you continuously disregard safety rules and practices, your instructor cannot allow you to remain in the laboratory since you will be a danger to yourself and others.
