What to do in Science Lab When we do labs in class there are certain procedures that you should follow in order to ensure that to lab is done correctly and that everyone in the room is safe.

Rule #1 Never run, push, joke or play around in the lab. It is very important that you stay where you are supposed to be unless given permission to move. The lab is not the place to try and be funny.

Rule #2 Know the location of the safety equipment. You should know where to find the fire extinguisher, and the eye wash.

Rule #3 Use care working with the lab equipment. You will be working with glass materials and also with sharp objects. Be safe and be mature while in the Lab.

Rule #4 Dispose of all chemicals and living materials as instructed. If we work with any chemicals or living materials you will be given instructions for where to put them when we are done.

Rule #5 Use care when working with chemicals. Do not taste any chemicals that we are working with. If you need to smell something, do so by wafting.

Rule #6 Be extra careful when working with heat or fire. Do not touch any equipment to see if its hot. Assume that all equipment is hot. If needed you will be given proper tools.

Rule #7 Dress properly for a lab activity. Long hair must be pulled back. Your sleeves must be rolled up. You should wear long pants and closed toed shoes. Do not wear long or heavy jewelry on Lab days. If you wear contacts you will need to wear glasses on Lab days.

Rule #8 Never eat or drink during a lab activity. No food or drink is allowed in the Lab for your safety. It is possible that your table is unsanitary and could contaminate any food or drink you have.

Rule #9 Report all accidents or injuries immediately. In an emergency, immediately inform your teacher of any accidents or injuries. Do not get up unless instructed to do so.

Rule #10 Follow all instructions carefully. In order for Labs to work, you must follow all directions and pay careful attention to the teacher’s instructions.
