Heating and Fire Safety DUH!! Fire can burn you Rules: 1. Do not touch hot objects with your hands – use clamps 2. Tie back loose hair / clothes 3. When heating a test tube, point the opening away from you 4. Know the location of the Fire Extinguisher
Chemical Safety DUH! Poisonous chemicals can hurt you! Rules: 1. Never touch, taste or smell any chemical unless instructed 2. Immediately wash off any spilled chemical; tell the teacher 3. Know the location of the eye wash 4. Never mix chemicals unless directed 5. Keep container lids closed
Eye and Face Safety DUH! Your eyes are important and must be protected Rules: 1. Wear safety goggles when instructed 2. Never touch your eyes or face during a lab without washing your hands first.
Sharp Instrument Safety DUH! Sharp instruments can cut you Rules: 1. Handle sharp objects with care 2. Always cut away from yourself 3. Immediately notify the teacher if you cut yourself in lab
Electrical Safety DUH!! Electricity can shock you Rules: 1. Never use electric equipment around water 2. Keep cords out of the way 3. Unplug equipment when not in use
Animal Safety DUH! Animals can be alive or dead Rules: 1. Do Not injure lab animals 2. Wash your hands!
