Lab Safety Rules - This presentation will educate you on the rules to follow during lab activities - Failure to obey these rules will result in a zero for the lab activity, and suspension from the lab until further notice
Safety Symbols • Know safety symbols • They will alert you to possible dangers and remind you to work carefully
Use Good Judgement • Exercise Caution at all times • Follow all teacher instructions • Notify the teacher immediately regarding any accident or unsafe areas
Lab Procedures • Read instructions • Follow lab procedures exactly • Never do an unauthorized experiment
Eye Safety • Always wear safety goggles • If you wear contact lenses let your teacher know • In case of emergency in which a chemical goes into one’s eye, use the eyewash station
Proper Attire • Long hair tied back • Do not wear loose clothing • Roll your sleeves up • Tie tucked away…
Hand Safety • If a chemical spills on your skin, notify the teacher and rinse with water • Wash hands after every lab
Physical Safety • Handle all equipment carefully • Keep walking isles clear • No sitting during labs • Never Eat or Drink in Lab • No Fooling around during lab activities.
Heating Safety • Never look into a container as you are heating it • Never point the end of a test tube being heated at yourself or others • Never heat in a closed container
Chemical Safety • Read all labels • Never touch, taste, or smell a chemical • Never mix chemicals unless instructed to do so
In case of an emergency… • Know the locations of: – fire extinguisher – body shower – eyewash station – first aid kit
