Most important rule: Behave responsibly

Behaviour during lab work be prepared follow indicated procedure remain standing throughout duration of lab no horseplay do not leave equipment unattended (especially Bunsen burners and heaters) no food or drinks in class (including water bottles) do not taste, touch, smell unless told to do so

In case of emergency (spills, breakage, injuries, etc. ) Inform teacher immediately Call 2700 on phone if teacher is unable If it's a life or death situation, call 2911.

Eye Protection Wear goggles when using chemicals If needed, use eye-wash only after notifying teacher avoid wearing contact lenses when using chemicals

Head to Toe keep long hair tied back hard-soled, covered shoes

In case of spills do not attempt to clean up notify teacher first

In case of fire notify teacher immediately use safety shower if clothing is on fire use fire extinguisher if work area is on fire

Smelling chemical do not inhale directly cup hand over container and fan vapours towards your nose (WAFTING)

In case of glass breakage notify teacher broken glass is placed in special container (not in regular garbage)

Unlabeled chemicals notify teacher do not use do not discard

When heating liquids in test tube Hold test tube at a angle point away from everyone

When mixing chemicals always add acids to water never add water to acid

When lab is finished return all materials to original place clean work area wash your hands (last thing you do)
