Test Tube Rack Purpose: Holds test tubes • Allows for the test tube to dry • Keeps test tubes from rolling off the table

Test tube brush/cleaner Purpose: Cleans the inside of the test tube.

Ring stand Purpose: Used for holding equipment(beaker, Erlenmeyer flask, etc. ) while heating substances with burner. Equipment used: Wire gauze Bunsen burner glassware

Triangular file Purpose: Used to break glass (hollow glass rod)

Watch glass Purpose: Used for holding substances. Substances can be heated on the glass or they can be held for viewing(chemical reaction)

Graduated cylinder Purpose: Measures precise amount of liquids (Volume)

Dissecting Scissors Purpose: Usually most commonly used for cutting during dissections. (tissue)

Scalpel Purpose: Used for cutting tissue. (very sharp)

Forceps Purpose: Piece of equipment utilized to pick/grab a variety of things usually used during dissections. (moving of tissue/organs)

Probe Purpose: Piece of equipment utilized to pick/grab a variety of things usually used during dissections. (moving of tissue/organs)

Dissecting trey/pan Purpose: Holds specimens that will be studied/dissected etc.

Dropper Purpose: Holds/transfers small amounts of liquids.

Metric ruler Purpose: Measures using mm/cm Metric Ruler Meters

Bunsen burner Purpose: Heat source that uses natural gas

Beaker tongs Purpose: Holds Beakers When using tongs, make sure one hand (protected by heat resistant glove) is under the beaker.

Cover Slip Purpose: Used to cover the substances, organism, etc. that has been placed on the microscope slide.

Microscope Slide Purpose: Holds substance, organisms, etc. that will be viewed under the microscope.

Compound Microscope Purpose: Apparatus used to view very tiny organisms that cannot be seen with the naked eye. It makes them look big.

Thermometer (glass) Purpose: Measures temperatures in C, F

Evaporating Dish Purpose: Glass used for holding/mixing chemicals, etc.

Test Tube Purpose: Used for holding, mixing liquids. Ex. Na. Cl + H 2 O (must use stirring rod)

Florence Flask Purpose: Holds liquids.

Funnel Purpose: Transfers liquids into small openings w/o spilling them. (from a wide mouth container to a small mouth container)

Inoculating loop Purpose: Transfers bacteria from culture into Petri dish. Note: tip(loop)is burned in order to kill bacteria. (Sanitation Procedures)

Burette/Pipette Acid to Base Purpose: Accurately measures tiny amounts (drops) of liquid.

Dissecting pin/needle Purpose: Piece of equipment that is used during dissection to hold tissues. • Note* Always insert in a slanted way- gives you more space to work with, holds tissue down.

Triangle Purpose: Used for holding crucible while heating substance using Bunsen burner and ring stand.

Wire Gauze Purpose: Piece of wire coated with ceramic used to hold the beaker. (on top of ring stand)

Petri Dish Purpose: Container used during/ for growing bacteria cultures Ager/ medium used to grow bacteria.

Mortar and Pestle Purpose: Used for breaking /crushing solids.

Balance (Triple Beam) Purpose: Used for measuring weight. (grams)

Test tube holder Purpose: Holds test tube used especially when heating substances (test tube is hot)

Magnifying lens/Hand lens Purpose: Makes small objects a little bigger.

Crucible Tongs Purpose: Used to hold crucible

Beaker Purpose: Holds and measures liquids 50 ml – 2000 ml

Erlenmeyer Flask Purpose: Holds and measures liquids 50 ml – 2000 ml
