La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital, Belize / IAD Jaime Adan Sosa Mile 67 George Price Highway, Santa Elena, Cayo, Belize, Central America / administrator@lalomaluz. bz Healthcare Provider License Introduction Ministry of Health implemented pre-existing healthcare providers accreditation laws History La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital, Belize, had never been required to apply for accreditation Mission To be a Licensed Healthcare Provider Activities / Highlights • Hire qualified personnel in the area of Nursing, Pharmacy and Imaging • Completion and implementation of Employee Handbook • Revision and implementation of Job descriptions for all departments • Revision of Policies, Procedures, Employees Handbook and Job Descriptions • Creation of Infection Control Protocols and Personnel Education • Establishment of Continuing Medical Education unit • Replacing most bulbs into LED bulbs, back up UPS for most of the equipments. • Redesign and improvement of patient waiting area. Statistical Summary Ministry of Health’s expectation was for healthcare providers country-wide to be accredited and licensed by January 2018. Evaluations at our hospital by the authorities resulted in shortcoming in the following areas: • Plumbing, • Electrical, • Patient Flow layout and inadequate conditions of present infrastructure, • Qualified Personnel in Pharmacy, Imaging and Nursing Departments, and • Fire safety issues. • Recharge fire extinguishers • Application for a Hydrant • Renovation plan for the hospital will be discussed in the next board meeting. Future Goals Become accredited as a healthcare provider by December 2019
