Rules in the Library Respect • Talk in quiet voices • (Other classes share this space) • The library is for silent reading, homework, school projects, and checking in/out books. Please: • NO socializing. • NO eating or drinking. • NO bathroom access in the library. • NO cellphones. • Only school approved activities on library computers and/or laptops.
Expectations Your Responsibility • Keep books away from food, drink, pets, and small children • Please do not push back the books. Our books stay to the front of the shelves • One book from a series at a time • Use a book mark and clean hand when reading your books • Return library books on time and in good condition (we have clear bags to protect your book from your backpack)
HOW TO FIND A GOOD BOOK? • Start at the GRAND CANYON Shelf. It features Grand Canyon Award winners and nominees from the past years in all of our different Genres sections of the library • Browse the shelves (maybe in your favorite Genre section) or favorite Author? ? • Read the back or inside cover • Use Destiny on the lookup computers • Ask a friend • Ask your teacher or the library staff
CHECKING OUT BOOKS Quietly wait for your turn, in line. Look & Listen for: “Type your ID number” • Questions? ? ? What do you do after you check out your books? Sit quietly and read your book! What do you do if you can’t check out any books? Sit quietly and read something you have.
HOW MANY BOOKS CAN I CHECK OUT? 6 th - 8 th grades : 3 books for your personal reading. (You may be assigned additional trade books by your teacher for classwork. )
WHERE AND WHEN SHOULD I RETURN BOOKS? • On your class’ Library Day, bring your books with you to the library. Or get a Pass from your teacher • The Library is open before school 7: 40 -8: 10 am, and during lunch. You will need a Permanent Library Pass (issued only at the beginning of the school year at the “Library’s discretion”) or a one time pass from your teacher for these times.
OH NO…MY BOOK IS OVERDUE! o All books are due in 2 weeks. o Get a pass to come to the library. You may renew one time* o There may be Restrictions on school events for OVERDUES and Fines.
HELP…I’VE LOST MY BOOK! $$$$$ § If you have lost a library book, you must pay$ § If a book is damaged, you must pay$ § Please take good care of the books!
A Special note about TEXTBOOKS: *You are responsible for your textbooks/trade books. *Language/trade books are individually barcoded and checked out to you! Do not mix them up with your friend’s book. *Barcoded textbooks/trade books for class MUST be turned in when your class is finished. *If you lose or damage your textbook, you will have to pay $ for it. *My Perspectives/Math Carnegie books are given to each student. They cost $15 to replace.
