KVS Digital Repository : The project was initiated during the One Day Workshop for the Librarians of KVS RO Ernakulam held on 29. 10. 2013 at Kendriya Vidyalaya Kanjikode. During the discussion on Digital Library creation, it was suggested by all the librarians to host and maintain an online repository of resources which will be updated and maintained with inputs from various Kendriya Vidyalayas. The creation and maintenance of a digital library at the Vidyalaya level will be duplication of effort and accessibility will be limited to the Vidyalaya. A digital repository hosted on the Internet will help to make various types resources available at different Vidyalayas accessible to the entire academic community round the clock. Moreover, collective input from different Kendriya Vidyalayas in the region will help to develop a comprehensive collection of judiciously selected web resources available for the students.
Objectives of KVS Digital Repository : The KVS Digital Repository aims to: Provide a platform for the academic community of Kendriya Vidyalayas to share resources Make available to the students online resources on various subjects which are judiciously selected by the subject teachers To pool the e-contents/presentations/question papers prepared by our teachers so as to make it available to everyone. To develop a platform for maintaining digital resources which will be easy to install utilizing less system resources and technical skills Provide links to free education softwares which will be useful for the teachers and students Share good quality projects and assignments created by our students so as to encourage innovative ideas and creativity
The Collection of Digital Repository : The Digital Repository aims to provide access to various educational resources suitable for the teachers and students of Kendriya Vidyalayas. The content will be selected and indexed by the teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The content can be added by anyone through the online form and it will be added to the repository only after moderation by the administrator(s). The collection of a digital library can be of two categories: (i) Born-Digital: content that was created in a digital format – a word document, video or audio (ii)Digitized Content: information that has been converted from a physical medium, e. g. a question paper in printed format which is later scanned and converted to digital format. The digital repository may contain any digital material suitable and useful for the KV community. Continuing….

Materials for preparation of competitive examinations, exceptional projects, models and software programs can also be provided online. . (v) Power. Point Presentations and other teaching resources: Many our teachers have prepared Power. Point Presentations and other digital teaching aids on various subjects. Pooling of these resources will be possible through a digital repository. The quality materials prepared by experts from different Kendriya Vidyalayas can be made available for the use of every teacher and duplication of efforts can be avoided. (vi) KVS/NCERT/CBSE Circulars: Various circulars, important forms, standardized procedures, manuals and instructions from KVS, NCERT and CBSE can be indexed. Continuing….
. (vii) Any other digital or online resources suitable for the staff/students like administrative documents, lesson plans, lecture notes etc. can also be added in the repository. (i. X) The project website was designed and hosted at http: //kvsdigitalrepository. in. At present it has over 1600 resources and any teacher can suggest resource(s) to be added to the repository through the online form provided on the site. (x) The project can also be implemented at individual KVS providing access locally over Intranet. The digital material may be uploaded on storage platforms like Google Drive or Sky. Drive and then be indexed at KVS Digital Repository using Suggest a Resource provided on the site.
Conclusion: The KVS Digital Repository with quality inputs from the teachers/librarians from different Kendriya Vidyalayas will definitely be a highly useful resource for the academic community.
