Wound culture – Superficial wound • Disinfect wound surface with alcohol and then a 10% povidone-iodine solution. Allow disinfectant to dry • Aspirate • Using a 3 to 5 ml syringe and a 22 to 23 gauge needle • If no aspirate is obtained, sterile, non-bacteriostatic 0. 85% saline • Swab • Lift edge of overlying debris (scab), if present. • If exudate or pus is present, sample with swab.
