Knut Ekwall nasceu em Säby, Suécia, em 3 de abril de 1843. Ekwall estudou, entre 1860 -1866, na Academia de Artes, em Estocolmo, com ênfase na xilogravura e desenho. Foi para Berlim, na Alemanha, onde se tornou um aluno do pintor Ludwig Knaus. Biography: Knut Ekwall was born in Säby, Sweden, on April 3, 1843. From 1860 to 1866, Edwall studied at the Academy of Arts, in Stockholm, with emphasis on xylography and drawing. He went to Berlin, Germany, where he became a pupil of the painter Ludwig Knaus. In 1870, Edwall settled himself as an artist in Munich, and later he worked in Leipzig. His works during this period were chiefly for magazine illustrations and also reproduced as engravings. Ekwall came back to Sweden, and died in Säby, on April 4, 1912.
