Knowledge Translation Making Cochrane knowledge usable in realworld
Knowledge Translation “Making Cochrane knowledge usable in realworld contexts…” Trusted evidence. Informed decisions. Better health.
Cochrane’s Knowledge Translation: • We exist to assist health decision-makers access Cochrane’s existing research and evidence more easily and to use it more effectively in their work. • Cochrane’s Knowledge Translation is the process of disseminating Cochrane evidence to the people who need it the most; ensuring our high quality, trusted information is made accessible to decision-makers in the format they need it: the right reviews in the right format to the right audiences. • Cochrane’s KT has a key role in ensuring that Cochrane evidence allows us to achieve our mission of promoting evidence-informed health decision-making by producing high-quality, relevant, accessible systematic reviews and other synthesized research evidence.
Cochrane’s Knowledge Translation: Accessible: To assist health decision makers across the world access Cochrane's research and evidence more easily. Usable: To enable health decision makers to use Cochrane’s research and evidence more effectively in their work.
Priority Work Packages Implementation plan approved in Cape Town 2017 - prioritization of work for the next two years: 1. Embed prioritization: Cochrane Groups (networks) define their research agenda using a transparent and inclusive process. 2. Improve and scale up products: i. e. determine which formats are best for which reviews and audiences 3. Multi-language: translate products most appropriate for specific reviews, settings, audiences 4. Grow capacity in our users: i. e. training of key stakeholders and intermediaries, media 5. Formalize strategic partnerships: strengthen connections, Cochrane evidence used by external partners 6. Establish KT governance: enable dispersed leadership through developing KT working groups and getting work plan in place 7. Build KT infrastructure and KT capacity within Cochrane: i. e. establish training and development programme for KT for Groups 8. Strive for common language: clarify terms and ensure consistent language use 9. Evaluate our KT Framework: to be included in all WPs
Knowledge Translation so far. . . • Working groups established for each prioritized work package of the KT Framework. • More than a 100 community members, 14 translations teams, and 10 CET staff, involved. • Held monthly meetings of KT Advisory Group. • Held meetings with all working groups and identified priority areas of work for first six months of 2018. • Some working groups more advanced than others.
Knowledge Translation so far. . . • KT is happening now. Our role is to recognize, embed and integrate its many activities throughout the organization. • It must be Community-led, rooted in day to day work and everyone has a role. • We know of pockets of KT expertise and excellence, particularly in dissemination, but it is patchy, disconnected, and is not supported in a systematic way. • Our objective is design and implement KT so that it’s community driven, consultative, and develops capacity. We need to find a balance between demonstrating ‘quick wins’ and the foundation work we need to bring about longstanding culture change. Developing capacity for KT is key, making it part of our day to day work and also aligned with Cochrane’s other key organizational priorities. • From February 2018, new to Cochrane, the Knowledge Translation Department…
