11/1/2020 * 2 TOC Background • Background KDC • Explain KLM role in ATM developments • Introduction to KDC ASAS study Specific challenges Schiphol Airport • Growth versus environmental constraints, need for fixed routes and enhanced arrival management. KLM View on ASAS • Airspace User vision + Areas where ASAS could help • Decentralization separation tasks, ATCO workload, small deviations from “optimized” business trajectory • Sequencing and Merging • Ground maneuvering Current status of the project Summary / conclusions / possible next steps

Background KDC 3 • Focuses on joint research for Schiphol mainport development - Meeting

Background KDC 3 • Focuses on joint research for Schiphol mainport development - Meeting market and environmental challenges. • Relations / partners http: //www. kdc-mainport. nl/ 11/1/2020 *

11/1/2020 * 4 KLM role in ATM • Air France / KLM only group

11/1/2020 * 4 KLM role in ATM • Air France / KLM only group airline registered in both DOW JONES SUSTAINABILITY INDEXES • KLM is pushing innovation in the airline industry further along by setting examples in innovation. • Active role in - SESAR Definition / Development phase EU AIRE Initiative FAB EC Cros regional ATM Pilots AMS Airport CDM KDC research

11/1/2020 * 5 KDC ASAS study Objectives / timing • Launched in February 2008

11/1/2020 * 5 KDC ASAS study Objectives / timing • Launched in February 2008 • To study if and how the Airborne Separation Assistance System (ASAS) could benefit the Schiphol concept evolution. - 6 Workshops addressing specific problem areas and ASAS functions. • The result should be a short list of applications with recommendations for a more detailed / focused research and focus on implementation.

11/1/2020 * 8 Airspace User vision • Endorsed User Vision by all User Associations

11/1/2020 * 8 Airspace User vision • Endorsed User Vision by all User Associations - Addresses also airborne decision making aids required to increase pilot situational awareness and safety and to enable the flight crew to provide separation under well defined conditions and precise division of tasks between the pilot and air traffic control. • Vision secured on SESAR Concept of Operations • Allowing increased ATC productivity, more efficient use of airspace (smaller footprint) and enabling aircraft to fly closer to optimum trajectories. It also shows potential to increase safety. • Implementation will be driven by safety / business cases.

11/1/2020 * 9 KLM view on Schiphol benefits On Ground / Departure • On

11/1/2020 * 9 KLM view on Schiphol benefits On Ground / Departure • On Ground under LVC - Safety - Separation responsibility with flight crew - Vacation of sensitive area • Departure - Slow traffic, GS awareness

11/1/2020 * 10 KLM view on Schiphol benefits Arrival • Peak hour capacity /

11/1/2020 * 10 KLM view on Schiphol benefits Arrival • Peak hour capacity / Fixed routes/ CDAs • 4 D arrival management necessary • S&M • Spacing

11/1/2020 * 11 Electronic Flight Bag Experience with Airport Map Application • Driver: reduce

11/1/2020 * 11 Electronic Flight Bag Experience with Airport Map Application • Driver: reduce runway incursions risk • Class C s/w to aid flight crew positional awareness only. • No other traffic shown, own ship only

11/1/2020 * 12 Electronic Flight Bag Experience with Airport Map Application • 251. 000

11/1/2020 * 12 Electronic Flight Bag Experience with Airport Map Application • 251. 000 hours / 29. 000 flight cycles since EIS 2003 • Airport Map appreciated by pilot community - 25% rated excellent - 45% rated very good - No issues related to navigation • Improved SA - @ complex airports - in LVC • RWY Incursion prevention - No Air Safety Reports, meaning?

11/1/2020 * 13 Next Steps • ADS-B Out - SES IR for 2015? -

11/1/2020 * 13 Next Steps • ADS-B Out - SES IR for 2015? - Incentives needed • Airport Map with traffic info and Airport Map with taxi routes? • ASAS Operational trial • Need for focused R&D

11/1/2020 * 14 Summary • ASAS a key enabler in SESAR Target ATM Concept

11/1/2020 * 14 Summary • ASAS a key enabler in SESAR Target ATM Concept - Supported by airlines. - Driven by Safety / Business cases. • KDC ASAS project launched in February ’ 08. - ASAS could be a potential enabler for supporting CDA’s / RNAV routes and meeting capacity / efficiency / safety and environmental targets. - Conclusions / recommendations pending • KLM Flight Crew - Positive attitude regarding new system capabilities and changed responsibilities. - Opportunity rather than “threat”.
