ACHIEVEMENT • Cervical cancer screening project started in 2013 • National Strategic Plan for Prevention and Control of NCD 2013 -2020 adopted • Draft National Multisectoral Action Plan for Prevention and Control of NCD 2014 -2020 developed • Framework Convention on Tobacco Control implementation enforced • Treatment services for diabetes, cardiology, and oncology • Peer education for diabetes in communities established • WHO Package of Essential NCD Intervention for Primary Health Care adapted and introduced in 2014
CHALLENGES • Engagement of non-health sectors in NCD prevention. • Limited national budget for NCD intervention. • Human resources, drug and other medical supplies for NCD program.
LESSON LEARNT • NCDs become one of priority programs of the Ministry of Health. • Tobacco smoking has realized by Royal Government of Cambodia. • Model diabetes care at provincial level established. • Addressing on other NCD risk factors such as unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and harmful use of alcohol is slowly progress
NEXT STEP • Finalize National Multisectoral Action Plan for Prevention and Control of NCDs 2014 -2020. • Establish coordination mechanism to oversee the implementation of National Multisectoral Action Plan for Prevention and Control of NCDs 2014 -2020. • Establish salt reduction program. • Strengthen health promoting school program addressing on NCD-related nutrition. • Increased tax for tobacco. • Scale up NCD prevention and control for PHC especially CVD prevention and cervical cancer screening. • Introduce HPV vaccine in the national immunization program.
