You are defined by who or what you follow • By definition, a disciple is one who has submitted himself to both the person and the work of Jesus: 1) It’s personal – You have given your life over to another person in order to follow Him 2) It works – There is a belief system or a worldview that governs your actions Your mouth may say but your feet will never lie For example: Michael Jordan – “His Airness!”

Jesus defined His disciples in at least four ways: 1) As lovers “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. ” (John 13: 35 ESV) 2) As learners “So, Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. ’” (John 8: 31 -32 ESV) 3) As losers “So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. ” (Luke 14: 33 ESV)

Kingdom Discipleship #1 Who Is a Disciple? 4) As leaders “And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. ” (Matthew 4: 19 ESV) And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. ” (Matthew 28: 18 -20 ESV) “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. ” (John 15: 8 ESV)

The world, the flesh and the Devil are defining disciples of Jesus in three ways also: (Matthew 4: 1 -11) 1) As less - “Command these stones to become bread” 2) As lame - “Throw yourself down” 3) As lost - “All this I will give you if you fall down and worship me” Questions – “Just Do It!” 1) Jesus has already chosen you – have you chosen Him? 2) Where are your footsteps leading? 3) Who is the Holy Spirit just throwing in your way right now?
