King Solomon Making Mistakes
King Solomon Making Mistakes In today’s lesson we’ll see who is first in King Solomon’s life. Before we do that here is a song suggested by Bea, I really liked it and I hope you do too. Afterwards pray that God would help you understand today’s lesson.
Making Mistakes God’s Commandments Can you remember we learned about the 10 Commandments, what was the first one? Talk with an adult what it means. Solomon knew God’s commandments. He was the king of God’s people but he stopped obeying God and the rules that he had given.
Making Mistakes God’s Commandments Solomon knew God wanted his people to marry only those from his country and not from other countries beside Israel because they would pray to other gods. God knew if Solomon had a wife who prayed to another god Solomon might pray to that god instead of him, the true god, just like when the Israelites worshipped a golden calf!
Making Mistakes God’s Commandments In some countries and religions people do worship statues and idols and make shrines to other gods. Here are some pictures of these idols. God says to worship only Him.
Making Mistakes God’s Commandments We may not worship statues and idols but maybe we make other things in our lives more important than God, maybe something we own, or do or someone we like. Talk with an adult about this; here are some things that adults might make more important than God, they are not bad but shouldn’t be more important than God.
Making Mistakes Silly Solomon 1 Kings 11: 1 -8 King Solomon had lots of wives. These wives did not come from Israel and worshipped different Gods. Solomon had disobeyed God. He started praying to false gods and because he did that the ordinary people did the same thing. Solomon was not a good example to his people.
Making Mistakes Stubborn Solomon 1 Kings 11: 9 – 14, 31 -36 God was very angry with Solomon as he had taken no notice of God’s commands. Because God is Holy and has to do what is right and fair, he had to punish Solomon. God allowed Solomon’s enemies to cause him trouble and he did not have a long life.
Making Mistakes Stubborn Solomon 1 Kings 11: 9 – 14, 31 -36 God said he would not let Solomon’s family be in charge of the whole of Israel any more but because God had made a promise to King David (Solomon’s dad) he let one of Solomon’s sons be king of one part of Israel.
King Solomon Making Mistakes When we first looked at Solomon’s life he did put God first and because of that God gave him wisdom and riches but sadly he didn’t continue to obey God. As Christians we need God’s Holy Spirit to help us to keep living in God’s way, we can’t do it on our own. We finish with a song which is my prayer for all of you. God Bless, Colin
