Interrogative § An interrogative sentence asks a question. § Ends with a question mark § Example – Did you catch a butterfly?
Imperative Sentence § Tells someone to do something § Ends with a period § Examples – Tell me about caterpillars. – Please speak slowly.
Exclamatory Sentence § Shows strong feeling § Ends with an exclamation mark § Examples – How pretty the butterfly looks! – I like the colors!
Strategy § Some sentences can be either exclamatory or declarative sentences. It is the writer’s choice. When you write a sentence, decide whether you want to express strong felling or surprise. If so, use an exclamation point.
