Motor skills are related to cognitive development and the ability to perform a number of early learning tasks. � Items: Throwing Stand, Hop, and Skip Building Thumbs and Fingers Cutting Copying Writing Name �
Concepts are the building blocks of knowledge that allow children to organize and categorize information. � Items: Body Parts Colors Rapid Object Naming Rote Counting Meaningful Counting Concepts Shapes �

Parent Questionnaire � Self-Help Development: daily living tasks � Social-Emotional Development: skills needed for successful relationships � Overall Development: degree of concern in specific areas
What your child will be doing Kindergarten teachers and support staff will be administering the DIAL-4 screening (Motor, Concepts, Language) and letter identification � Nurse will complete vision and hearing screening (you will be notified if your child does NOT pass) � Counselor will meet with your child to get to know him/her � Your child will receive a book courtesy of Republic PTO �
What Parents should expect on Screening Day � Check-in table: child will receive name tag, parents will receive parent questionnaire � Child will be escorted to the screening area � Parent/Guardian will be escorted to the enrollment area � Parent/Guardian will need to complete the DIAL-4 Parent Questionnaire FIRST before completing enrollment paperwork
� Parents will complete full enrollment packet while their child is being screened � Bring proof of residency (utility bill, rental contract, real estate contract); copy of your child’s birth certificate; and copy of current immunization record � Have emergency contact and doctor information available

IEP-special education services; IFSP-previous First Steps programming Photo permission-if no, it is for all (website, publications, yearbook, etc. )
Finishing Up… � When screening is completed, your child will be brought to you � Parents as Teachers will score the screening and come get you to go over the results � Allow 90 for screening and scoring � Childcare is not provided; we encourage you to final alternative arrangements for siblings
Scoring � Percentile Rank: 16 -84 %ile is in the average range OK range 8 percentile and above Potential Delay below 7 percentile � Standard Score: 85 -115 is in the average range OK range 77 and above Potential Delay below 76

Parent-Child Activities � Forms will be available as a resource for families to do over the summer to help develop skills in motor, concepts, language, self-help development, social-emotional development, and other areas. These will be given to parents if a potential delay is noted.
