State Requirement for BRIGANCE § What is the Kentucky Readiness initiative? • The goal is to screen every child to determine readiness skills and to rate every child on the KY Readiness Scale. • Started in 13 -14 school year. § The purpose of Kentucky’s Common Kindergarten Entry Screen initiative: • To identify children’s readiness in order to plan instruction. • To identify children who may need to be closely monitored for potential interventions. 2
BRIGANCE Two parts: Core Assessment and Self Help/Emotional Scales § A brief procedure (10 -15 minutes per child) used to identify children’s strengths and needs and help plan instruction. § Can also be used to identify children who may need additional intervention or ultimately evaluation. 3
Our Screening Window �No sooner than 15 days before school starts �No later than the 30 th instructional day, September 20 th �Our district completed screeners August 13 th -17 th �Selected faculty/staff trained for giving screener and trained to utilize the online management system 4

Action Plan Goal: Ø By 2018/2019 school year 60% of incoming kindergarteners will be “ready” as measured by the Brigance screener.
