Attendance TEA Policy � State law mandates that all students between the ages of 6 and 17 must attend school. � According to Senate Bill 1432, if the student is absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of the days within a sixth month period in the same school year or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period: A. The student’s parent is subject to prosecution under Section 25. 093 B. The student is subject to prosecution under Section 25. 094 � The above offense is a Class C misdemeanor which my be prosecuted in the Clint Justice of the Peace Precinct 6 and is punishable by a fine not to exceed $500. 00 per/violation.

Attendance KEYS Academy To avoid being referred to truancy court, it is crucial that all absences become excused. In order to excuse an absence, the student’s parent must first call and inform KEYS Academy of the absence. Secondly, upon returning to KEYS Academy, the parent or student must submit to the school attendance registrar, a signed note or document that states an explanation for being absent. This must be done within 72 hours after the day of absence. Please note that if a student is ill, a doctor’s note is required for 3 or more consecutive absences or after 6 cumulative absences.

Campus Behavioral Plan The following rules are enforced by all faculty and staff at KEYS Academy: � HALLWAY PROCEDURES- Students are to walk on the right side in the hallways with their hands behind their back, shirt tucked in properly and pants pulled up to the waist, and refrain from talking. Any type of physical contact/hand shaking with anyone is prohibited. � INAPPROPRIATE CONVERSATIONS – Students are to refrain from conversing on topics related to gangs, sex, drugs, partying and alcohol. Teachers may use the topics in character education lessons. During such lessons students are to keep conversations related to the lessons. * GANG ACTIVITY AND DISCUSSIONS – Students are to refrain from any type of gang activity; it is strictly prohibited. All gang activity will be reported to SISD SRO staff and EPPD Gang Unit.

Campus Behavioral Plan Cont’d � PROFANE, OFFENSIVE AND VULGAR LANGUAGE AND GESTURES – Students are never to use profanity or any language deemed offensive and/or vulgar. Included in this category are derogatory terms based on race and ethnicity. � SLEEPING IN CLASS – Students are not allowed to put their head down or sleep in class and are expected to be on task and ready to learn at all times. � DISRUPTING CLASS – Students are not to disrupt classroom procedures or instruction. If a student has a concern they are to wait until the end of the period or discuss the situation with the teacher privately when the teacher allows the conversation. � DESTROYING PROPERTY – All student materials are provided by the teacher and KEYS Academy. Materials and supplies are to be returned by the student in the same condition they are received.

Excessive referrals will result in administrative actions such as all day parent shadowing, suspensions, progressive court sanctions, DAEP Extension, and possible expulsion and enrollment at Caesar Chavez Academy. Consequences: STEP 1 - Verbal warning STEP 2 - Parent contact (phone call, note and/or email) STEP 3 - Detention and parent conference STEP 4 – Three (3) hours of academic Saturday school with numerous make-up assignments. STEP 5 – Office referral.

After 8: 15 a. m. , the student is considered late and will be required to sign student in the front office. �A parent/guardian is required to pick up the student in the afternoon from the back porch of KEYS Academy between 4: 00 and 4: 30 p. m.

On occasion it is permissible that someone else transport your child, however it is important that you contact the school and have on file a permission form giving another adult permission to transport your child. If you have questions please contact one of the security personnel. If the permission form is not on file; we will NOT release the student. The person agreeing to sign in or out for the student must be (18) years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license.

High school students wear navy blue shirts and middle school students wear dark green shirts. � Shoes must be either completely black or white (including matching laces). Combination colors will not be allowed. � Hair must be neat, of a natural hair color, cut or styled leaving the students eyes uncovered. The hairstyle or color must not be a distraction to the educational environment. � No facial hair on male students (except a neatly groomed mustache) is allowed. � During cold weather/conditions students may wear a plain, form fitting, white cotton t-shirt or thermal shirt underneath their KA polo. They may not wear sweatshirts. � Personal expressions must be completely covered. THE KEYS ACADEMY ADMINISTRATORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CORRECT ANY STUDENT UNIFORM OR GROOMING ISSUE THAT DISRUPTS THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT EVEN IF THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ANTICIPATED AND/OR SPECIFICALLY RESTRICTED IN WRITING.
