Why do I have to choose? Because it’s time for you to have a say in what you study. Because as work gets harder you’ll want to concentrate on your strengths. Because there isn’t enough time to fit in everything. Because this is your first step in deciding your own future.

What choices do I have to make? Core subjects – we all take…. English (language and literature) Mathematics Science (worth 2 or 3 GCSEs) Core PE Additional core subjects PSHE / RE / Citizenship / WRL Then you take 4 chosen subjects….

Option subjects (choose 6…get 4) Media Studies Art Music Business Studies Physical Education/Sports Computing Constructing the Built Environment Psychology Religion, Philosophy and Ethics Drama Food Prep and Nutrition Spanish Statistics Geography Design and Technology Health and Social Care History Mandarin

What guidance will I get? Tutor discussions Year 9 reports Options booklet Subject teachers Year 9 parents’ evening (after half term) Individual guidance interviews (next 2 weeks)

How do I choose? What subjects do I like? What am I good at? What do I want to do when I move on to the next level? Keep a broad range of subjects. A foreign language is always useful.

How do I even start thinking about this…. ? We will give you three things: • Options booklet – read it! • Details of your guidance interview (when, where, who with) • Preparation form (pg 27 in booklet) – to help you start thinking about your future…fill this in and have it with you in your guidance interview.

This week Options brochure issued with prep form 1 st Feb – 12 th Feb Senior staff conduct guidance interviews Half term holiday Tues 23 rd Feb Yr 9 Parents’ evening Fri 3 rd Mar Deadline for return of option choices (online) March - April Individual consultation for some pupils Easter holiday May Final option choices confirmed
