Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. • A Spelling test is administered containing 20 words, lasting approximately 15 minutes. (20 Marks) • A separate test is given on Punctuation, Vocabulary and Grammar (SPAG) (50 Marks) • This test lasts for 45 minutes and requires short answer questions, including some multiple choice. • Marks for these two tests are added together to give a total for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. • Total score out of 70 marks • This year you needed a score of approximately 38/70 =100 SS (36/70 the previous year)

Reading: Sample Question

Reading • The Reading Test consists of a single test paper with three unrelated reading texts. • Children are given 60 minutes in total, which includes reading the texts and answering the questions. • There are 3 texts which get progressively more difficult as you go through. We usually tell them to break the time up so they should spend around 20 minutes on each part. • A total of 50 marks are available. • This year you needed 28/50 = 100 SS (26/50 the previous year) • During the reading paper, a child’s inference and deduction skills are thoroughly tested. They will also be expected to answer questions on authorial choices, explaining why an author has chosen to use particular vocabulary, grammar and text features.

Mathematics • Children will sit three tests: Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. • Paper 1 is for ‘Arithmetic’ lasting for 30 minutes, covering calculation methods for all operations, including use of fractions, percentages and decimals (40 marks) • Papers 2 and 3 cover ‘Problem Solving and Reasoning’, each lasting for 40 minutes. (35 marks each) • Last year you needed 61/110= 100 Scale Score (From 57/110 the previous year) • Questions gradually increase in difficulty. • Pupils will still require calculation skills but will need to answer questions in context and decide what is required to find a solution.

SAT’s Preparation…. . • We have been preparing the children right from September. They have been sitting Practice Papers most weeks in school so they are very familiar with them. • • SATs Booster classes are well under way. Lunchtime drop in have started this week. • Homework: All homework is preparation, revision and consolidation for SATS so it is very important that your child completes all homework to the best of their ability. • • CGP-Maths Practice Papers Spellings (year 5/6 spelling list) Regular reading We encourage you to help and support your child reassure them that their BEST is good enough!

SAT’s Week • This is an important week for your child that they have been working hard preparing for since September. • Please ensure that your child goes to bed at a reasonable time each night before each test. • We are going to have breakfast at school each morning, so your child can come into school for 8: 15 each morning for some Hot Chocolate and toast.
