Let's count our local area Part 2 Let’s organise our pictures into categories. Let’s look at each picture. What did we like? What did we dislike? Let’s do this again using roleplay. We could pretend to be a shop manager, cyclist, parent with a pushchair – would we have a different reaction?

Key Stage 2 Let's count our local area Part 2 Do we think a high bus count is: A good thing? A bad thing? Maybe neither – and maybe it depends on where you are. What do we think about traffic? What do we think about litter? Whose responsibility is it to remove it?

Let's count our local area Part 2 Look at a picture and discuss what it tells us: Do we think a picture is ‘fact’? Why or why not? Can we use pictures to form an opinion? For example, a picture of an empty road could make us think that the road is quiet or a dead end. But what if it was taken very early in the morning? Let’s think about how far a picture can give information about the past or present.

For example: If for every 1 bus we saw 6 cars, the ratio is: 1 bus to 6 cars (1: 6) How many cars would we have seen if we saw 5 buses? The proportion of vehicles we saw: Bus: 1 in 7 Cars: 6 in 7

Plot the artworks onto our map to create a large 3 D map of our area, which can show things have changed over time We can upload our artwork onto the Let’s Count! website – and we might even win a prize!
