Let’s Count! Creating a time capsule The census has been taking place for over 200 years. Our first census was in 1801. A child who lived in 1801 might have wanted to include their favourite toys and pictures in their time capsule. 180 1

Let’s Count! Creating a time capsule in 1981 In the 1980 s ghetto-blasters were very popular. People used to record the music onto audio cassettes and then play them on ghetto-blasters. Everyone could hear! A child in 1981 might have included a cassette in their time capsule.

Let’s Count! Creating a time capsule in 1991 In 1991, what might children have put into their time capsule? Perhaps a games console such as a Super Nintendo. The first one was released at the end of 1990.

Let’s Count! Creating a time capsule today Today’s task is to write a letter to a child in the future about our daily lives. You could tell them about: Your favourite book, game or film. Your favourite subjects at school. Your least favourite subject! Travel today – how do you think the child reading your letter will get around?

Let’s Count! Creating a time capsule today Burying our time capsule! You can bury your letter with your time capsule. You could hold a ceremony when the time capsule is buried (or stored). You could write about this in your school newsletter, or even invite your local media to come down and witness the ceremony.
