What is Geodetic Surveying? Geodetic Surveyors use advanced technology, such as satellites, to identify specific locations and obtain accurate measurements. They store this data and also figure out geological features of the Earth. They sometimes help cartographers create maps. Their equipment varies but they commonly use tripods attached to electronic rangefinders and data collectors.

Requirements ■ The minimum education that they require for Geodetic surveyors are that they need a Bachelor's degree from either a surveying program or engineering program. For training, the use of collecting and maintaining data is highly important. Technical skills are valued. The use of mathematical skills is also important because when you work as a Surveyor you need to double check formulas you have used. Technological skills are also taught to help surveyors with the advanced equipment they are given. A license is also required.

Determine orientation of tracts of land including position, boundaries, size, and shape using theodolites, electronic distance measuring equipment, satellite-based positioning equipment, land information systems or other geodetic survey equipment. Providing data to government agencies or the general public Surveying areas to determine exact points, elevations, property boundaries, lines, contours and volumes of the land. Abilities ■ Analytical thinking ■ Stress tolerance ■ Dependable ■ Numerical reasoning. ■ When I was really young, my dad who is a carpenter brought me along and told me to remember lots of numbers. Over time I was doing measurements for him and later on started doing formulas. The last project I did with him was build a platform for a small church.

Conclusion ■ This job involves a lot of math and geophysics to achieve and is a hard challenge to overcome. A Geodetic Surveyor once achieved is a fun and interesting job since you get to explore all the different places that it takes you. These professionals help construction companies see where they can build without any property disputes. I wanted to become a Geodetic Engineer and after getting my degree, this is one of the jobs that I can choose after finishing my education. This is not my final goal but it is one of the careers that has interested me.
