Kenya Space Agency � � � Kenya Space Agency established as a State Corporation by Presidential Order on 7 th March 2017 Succeeds the Kenya National Space Secretariat established in 2009 Current space related activities undertaken by different stakeholders in different government departments Mandate of the Agency is to be the central body that promote, coordinate and regulate all space activities in Kenya Anchors space technology and related applications as key drivers for development in tandem with the national aspirations, political, social and economic goals

Space related Initiatives � Development and launching into space of the Kenya’s First Space object 1 st Kenyan University Nano-Satellite – Precursor Flight (1 KUNS-PF) Hosting the International Space Forum in Nairobi, Kenya � Participating in the piloting of Satellite Based Agricultural Monitoring Project (SBAM) � Participating in the implementation of African Regional Data Cube (ARDC) �

Capacity Building Establish links with Space faring countries to benefit from their experience Exploring opportunities for collaboration in capacity building in the space industry Kenya benefitted from such collaboration by having its FIRST Kenyan space object, called 1 KUNS-PF, launched into space with support from ASI, JAXA and UNOOSA

International Space Forum Kenya, with support from IAF and ASI, hosted the African Chapter of the International Space Forum (ISF) in Nairobi, Kenya on 13 th February 2018 � In attendance: 29 African countries and 13 international organizations Main objectives: � � Explore potential of space technology to address African challenges and how it can support socio-economic development Explore opportunities of collaboration with Space faring countries to benefit from their experience in the space sector

SBAM & ARDC Satellite Based Agricultural Monitoring (SBAM) � � � Satellite based estimate and update of the agricultural areas Assessment of the crops status by using ground and satellite data; Provide agricultural land cover maps and crop yield estimation Africa Regional Data Cube (ARDC) � � Building the capacity to apply Earth observation satellite data to address local and national needs in Africa Tool to harnesses the latest Earth observation and satellite technology to help Africa address food security as well as issues relating to agriculture, deforestation, and water access.
