Keith L. Smith Lecture on Innovation in Extension Recognizing 35 Years of Service to The Ohio State University On June 30, 2015 Keith L. Smith retired from The Ohio State University, completing a tremendously successful career as an educator and administrator in the Cooperative Extension Service. For 23 years, Keith served as Director, OSU Extension in which he lead the organization through significant growth in programming and personnel and through challenging periods that created great opportunities for the organization. An avid reader and student of leadership, Keith took great pride in advocating for innovation in the organization. In recognition of his dedicated service and leadership, the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences created the lecture series to be presented at the OSU Extension Annual Conference each year. Characteristics of the Speaker • Individual should have experience/knowledge in community-based educational programs or the ability to apply experience/knowledge from their current profession to Cooperative Extension. • Individual should have demonstrated recent experience developing and implementing innovative and creative educational programs and/or solutions to program development, implementation and/or evaluation. • Innovative and creative programs or solutions should be contemporary in nature and related to current societal or organizational issues/challenges/opportunities. • Individual should challenge listeners to think and act beyond what they are comfortable; create an atmosphere of excitement for the future; and/or offer insight into expected or anticipated challenges and opportunities that Cooperative Extension can and should address. Keith Smith presenting reflecting on his distinguished career at the 2014 Ohio State University Extension Annual Conference Speaker Selection • The planning committee should identify 3 -4 potential speakers and submit names, organizational affiliation and brief bio to the Vice President for Agricultural Administration and Dean, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. • Selection of speaker will be made in consultation with the planning committee, director of Extension, and VP & Dean, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. • Speaker fees, travel arrangements, lodging and incidental expenses will be arranged/processed in consultation with the Vice President & Dean’s office and the OSU Extension Annual Conference planning committee.
