Read, Write and Remember Music Can you read, write and remember music? Yes you can! Lets start with some animal toys Here is a mouse and a lion
Loud and quiet toys (all about dynamics) Make the sound of a lion “roar” Is it loud or quiet? (loud) Make the sound of a mouse? Is it loud or quiet? (ssh……quiet) Look at each toy and try out your best roar and squeak

Play it fast , play it slow (all about tempo) Find an instrument you can play – here are some ideas If you haven’t got any of these, find something to tap or shake or scrape Try playing each instrument or sound maker fast and then slow

Bubble music the sound of a “pop” as the bubble bursts is a short sound the sound of a “hum” as the bubble floats is a long sound Can you make other short sounds with your body or a sound maker? Can you make other long sounds with your body or a sound maker?

High and low sounds (all about pitch) Can you make a high sound with your voice? (a high sound is something like a squeak, a squeal or a tweet) Can you make a low sound with your voice? (a low sound is something like a moo, a growl or a woof from a big dog)

Play high, middle or low You can play high and low sounds on a glockenspeil high end (shortest bar) low end (longest bar), left hand side Can you play a high low pattern on a real or virtual glockenspeil or xylophone? You could also try it on a keyboard (low notes on the left) – see next two slide for instrument suggestions

Pad, i. Phone or an Android device that you could try e. g. xylophone, marimba or keyboard ASK A GROWN UP FOR HELP
High, middle or low? high middle low Choose a note in the middle of your real or virtual instrument and play this high, middle and low pattern If you haven’t got an instrument to play ask a grown up to help you find 3 clean and empty glasses, jars or bottles and fill them with different amounts of water. Tap them gently with a metal spoon and decide which one is high, which is low and which one is in the middle! Now you can make up, write and perform your own pattern? Ask a grown up if they can play the pattern using your music

Whatever the Weather (a bit about timbre – different sounds) Use your voice, body sounds and instruments to play this weather music Make up your own weather music, draw the pictures to remind you of the order, you could add some lightning! Play it to an audience
Fireworks (a bit more about timbre - different sounds) Can you make the sound of each firework with your voice? Can you draw a symbol to represent the sound you made? (see the next slide for help)

Through thick and thin (a bit about texture – layers of sound) • You will need someone to play with you as this is all about layers of sound happening at the same time • Ask someone to play the footsteps music as Rosie the Hen goes for a walk - layer 1). Choose their instrument – they need to play all the way through • Your job is to make the sounds as the fox (layer 2) has lots of mishaps, Rosie, doesn’t seem to notice and just keeps on walking
