Location & Legal Status • Kawa Marae is nestled in Moanauriuri bay on the northwestern side of Aotea. • Aotea (Great Barrier Island) lies 100 kilometres north east of Auckland, a 30 -minute flight, or 4 -hour boat trip from Auckland. • Ngatiwai o Aotea Kawa Marae Trust aka Kawa 3 Part Maori Reservation Trust is the legal entity that administers a total of 1, 214 hectares of Maori land that was set apart as Maori Reservation on the 28 March 1978.

Ngatiwai o Aotea Kawa Marae Trust also known as Kawa 3 Part Reservation Trust was registered as a Charitable Trust (CC 22867) Whare Nui ‘ Rehua’ Opened 4 November 2008 22 November 2014 4 November 2014 Whare Kai ‘Hinurere’ opened
