KATHERINE OF ARAGON

Katherine was a direct descendant of the Spanish royal line. Queen Isabella of Castille King Ferdinand of Aragon

She came over to England to marry Henry´s brother Arthur, but soon he died , and she married Henry VIII. She was a true wife and Queen of England for 24 years.

Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon had only one child – Princess Mary. Katherine of Aragon King Henry VIII There were five other children , but they all died. Katherine gave Henry a daughter, but he wanted a son.

Soon the King fell in love with a younger woman – Anne Boleyn and he wanted to divorce Katherine, but the Catholic Church and the Pope didn`t agree to the divorce.

So Henry broke with the Pope, he became Head of the English Church and divorced Katherine in 1533.

After a long struggle, Katherine of Aragon was sent away from court. Kimbolton Castle in Cambridgeshire was her final home. She was also banned from seeing her only daughter, Princess Mary. Katherine lived a lonely life and died a broken, unhappy woman in 1536. She was 51 years old.
