Her life Kate O’Flahert Chopin was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 8, 1850. She had 3 brother and a sister but she was the only children to live past the age of twenty-five. When she was five years old her father died in a railroad accident. Them she was taken out of school and educated at home by some relatives. When she was 16 she returned to school where she was top of her class. She won medals, was elected into the elite Children of Mary Society In 1870, when she was 20, Kate got married with Oscar Chopin, a Louisiana cotton trader. He was catholic, like her. In 1882 Oscar died and tow years latter her mother, leaving Kate alone with six children.

Writing The idea of write came from the family doctor who worried about her emotional health. Kate was immediately successful and wrote short stories about people she had known in Louisiana. During her life she wrote a lot of different things, like poems, stories, novels. All that things used to involve some interesting theme, sometimes a delicate theme for that time, like women alcoholism or racism. Because of that some of her text have a rejected publication. But Kate didn’t gave up.

Kate Chopin was very criticized after writing her second novel: “The Awakening”, in 1899.

Kate Chopin was very criticized after writing her second novel: “The Awakening”, in 1899. The conservative society couldn’t accept that “sexual openness” how they’ve called it. In 1950 the text was rediscovered and received some attributes because of the beauty away of write and the modern sensibility. Even thought the collection was only published 87 years after her death.
