Background � � Born in Guangdong, China in 1928 in a middle class family In 1940, he followed his family moved to Hong Kong his father died and left him the responsibility to take care of his family when he was 15. Started his own business in 1950, a plastic flower manufactory.

� � � In 1958 when his landlord raised its rent, He had enough cash to purchase his factory and it became his first investment in real estate. By 1960 s, Cheung Kong had transformed into a property development and management company. The company, renamed Cheung Kong Holdings in 1971, had its initial public offering in 1972. By 1979 Li was Hong Kong's largest private landlord.
