PLOT (31 P~40 P) • Desk sergeant said “Paul fought with who got into a quarrel because his girl is half-breed Indian. Also, he was behind the game at Hot Springs. ” to Norman. • Norman was worried about it , so he decided to fish with Paul to help him. • Norman was hanging around with Neal brother of Jessie who is his lover because of her asking. • Norman did not like Neal because he is a lout. • Norman loved Jessie even if he is not fun. *lout : If you describe a man or boy as a lout, you are critical of them because they behave in an im polite or aggressive way.
PLOT (41 P~50 P) • They loaded the half-ton truck that belonged to Kenny who is the one of Jessie's brothers who stayed in Wolf Creek, so they got permission to fish in the Elkhorn. As soon as they arrived, Paul told him to spread out and fish until they meet. Norman took his time walking down the trail, trying to with each step to leave the world behind. For him, fishing is a world created apart from all others, and inside it are special worlds of their own. • Years ago Norman was fishing with Paul, and Paul watched him fish a hole that went under willows until he couldn't bear the sight any longer. He said "You can't catch trout in a bathtub. You like to fish in open water because you are afraid to lose a fly if you cast into the bushes. " Then I complained, “ I lose flies when I get mixed up in the bushes, " Then Paul said, "What do you care? We don't pay for flies. You can't catch fish if you don't dare go where they are. " • But Norman has never mastered the cast because he still flinch from the prospect of losing flies that he doesn't have to pay for. He still wanted to know why fish were living under the bushes, because it is not fly fishing if you are not looking for answers to questions. • The cast is so soft and slow that it can be followed like an ash settling from a fireplace chimney. One of life's quiet excitements is to stand somewhat apart from yourself and watch yourself softly becoming the author of something beautiful, even if it is only a floating ash.
PLOT (51 P~60 P) • • • Norman was fly fishing in a big water near the bushes trying to catch a big Brown Trout. As soon as the fish disappeared in front of Norman's eyes, Paul came over with a basket filled with gigantic Brown Trouts which he caught in the shallow open water. Norman, already disappointed by the fact that he "missed him", became even more dismayed after seeing the fish that his brother caught. Due to his insecure feelings, he mistakenly talked about what happened last night, Paul's Indian girl and front end of Paul's car breaking down from chasing the rabbit, making an awkward situation. Although the number of fishes caught was far off from Norman's limit, they took off to find Neal who left Norman to go bait fishing near the first bend. Finding out that Neal was not at the first bend, they hurried back to their truck through the wind and pouring rain where they found Neal along with rest of their companion. Neal had framed Norman by saying he was left alone under the sun too long, having Norman take all the blame, even from his own wife. Way back to Wolf Creek, the truck was stuck in mud multiple times. Norman and Paul had to push the truck from behind while Neal lying down on a mattress and Ken sitting at the driver's seat. Norman was not very fond of Neal since he did not like Norman in the first place, doesn't like Montana, and everything he did irritated Norman. After arriving at home, Norman could not stand a second more with his brother-in-law and his family so he asked Jessie for permission to go to Seeley Lake for a while with Paul. With Jessie's permission, Norman and Paul left. When they reached near Pacific, Paul started to talk about a girl's sexual habits whom he picked up.
