Prayer & Share Everything which the Kairos volunteers have done up to now has had as it’s ultimate goal the formation of the Prayer & Share group fellowships.

Look again at the purpose of Kairos…………… “To establish strong Christian communities among the populations of the correctional institution” Being Present

The Kairos weekend builds the platform…. . The weekend is the first step in a process to create a community of trust, Christian inspiration and support for the resident’s Fourth Day. Being Present

The Wisdom of Kairos The entire environment begins to change as P & S groups of residents in the institution begin to pray for one another, the administration, and staff of the prison. Being Present

The importance AND process of Prayer & Share SHOULD be discussed in detail during team meetings !!! Being Present

Team members should understand their role in building the community. Being Present

Prayer & Share…. . BEING PRESENT-being prepared!! There should be a comprehensive discussion and understanding of the Continuing Ministry Riverbanks (page 14 of the Program Manual) Being Present

Practice P & S sessions……. . Not everyone can attend the Instructional Reunion. The team needs instruction too !!! Being Present

Review and discuss the grouping card……. . This will not only benefit P & S but will prepare the team for the Leader’s Hang in There Talk Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . The P & S fellowship is the yeast which will change the environment of the entire institution. Grouping does not come naturally !!! Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . The knowledge of the residents gleaned from the Instructional, MUST be reinforced through the actions of the Kairos team members !! Being Present

The Wisdom of Kairos The volunteer is an outsider who will have a detrimental impact on the intimacy of the group. Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . BEING PRESENT-being obedient !! Being in the small group inhibits the growth of the residents. Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . As the team began withdrawing on Sunday of the 3 ½ day Kairos weekend to allow the residents to “Encounter Others” this should be the mindset followed for Prayer & Share grouping. Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . Follow the procedure outlined in the Program Manual pages 306 -317. The establishment of on-going spirit filled P & S groups is our explicit goal. Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . Groups should be 3 -6 RESIDENTS !! In a resident group setting they can become vulnerable, honest, and open with each other as they grow in Christ Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . Start with the Kairos Community Prayer. The P & S group has but one leader; Jesus Christ. He is invited at the beginning “to come and sit with us” Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . Encourage the residents to use the grouping cards or Freedom Guide as the structure of each grouping. The questions promote the desired degree of openness and vulnerability. Being Present

The process of Prayer & Share…. . Close with the Lord’s Prayer and Surely the Presence !! Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . BEING PRESENT-making the commitment !! Each Inside team member should commit to actively participate in the Reunions. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . Follow the procedure outlined in the Program Manual pages 318 -325. Christ uses the Reunion to increase a resident’s awareness of being part of His body. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . It is a time of celebration of Christ’s love, forgiveness, and renewal. Activities may include prayer, praise, fellowship, witness, AC teaching, and P & S grouping. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . Encourage “regular” participants of P & S to invite those who have “drifted away” to attend the Reunion. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . Prepare team members during teaming !! They should be prepared to serve not only as a participant in the P & S groups, but also as a mentor and a teacher. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . Kairos is a ministry of affirmation. It is also a healing ministry, and a ministry of reconciliation !! The presence of the team becomes an integral part of this process. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . The residents need continuing affirmation from the outside world that he/she is forgiven, worthy, and loved. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . The residents need an ever present support group to remind them they are forgiven and loved. This is the small P & S group of residents; not residents & team !! Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . The residents need regular contact with the larger visible body of Christians in the institution. This keeps residents from being isolated; a “paralyzed Christian” Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . One team member may join each small P & S group. Team members play NO leadership role in the small groups. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . Team members should do NOTHING in the group to encourage residents to build community with members of the team in preference to their fellow residents !!!! Being Present

The Wisdom of Kairos Activities that make the residents more dependent upon volunteers are counterproductive to the purpose of Kairos. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . Avoid grouping with the same residents at every Reunion. Team members should have exposure to new relationships with ALL residents. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . BEING PRESENT-making it special !! Sitting in the group at the Reunion makes it special. Regular inclusion of Kairos volunteers in resident Prayer & Share groups should NOT occur !!!! Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . BEING PRESENT-being prepared!! Comprehensive training at team meetings is essential. Team members MUST be ready for interaction with the residents in the small group setting. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . The Reunion is NOT a time to come back together to relive the “glorious” experience of the 3 ½ day Weekend. It is a time to assure each other “You are Not Alone” Being Present

The Wisdom of Kairos Refreshments have sometimes become “meals”, attracting persons with little or no interest in the Reunion. Being Present

The Monthly Reunion…. . The Chaplain should provide a copy of the “Guidelines for Resident Witness Talks” pages 325 -326 to the selected witnesses PRIOR to the Reunion. Being Present

Inside Resident Council…. . The Chaplain selects 3 or 4 leaders from the inside Kairos community, who are grouping regularly and also regularly attending worship service. Being Present

Inside Resident Council…. . Residents attending the 2 Day Retreat select one of the group to serve as the Resident Community Leader for the next 6 (six) months. The RCL meets with the Chaplain to plan Kairos events. Being Present

Inside Resident Council…. . The Resident Community Council plays a huge role in maintaining and supporting weekly Prayer & Share fellowship groups, by encouraging all Kairos graduates to group regularly !! Being Present

Inside Resident Council…. . The Resident Community Council plans the Monthly Reunions. They choose the residents to lead prayer, read scripture, give witness, as well as the music selections and/or inside music leaders. Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . BEING PRESENT-feeding the ministry !! The primary purpose of the 2 Day Retreat is to give those not yet grouping some experience, and to encourage the return of those who have “drifted away”. Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . Follow the procedure outlined in the Program Manual pages 328 -343. The 2 Day Retreat is a valuable tool in bringing Christ’s love into an institution. Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . The retreat starts on Saturday morning and ends on Sunday afternoon. There is a team meeting on Friday to establish a “common vision” for the team. This meeting is spiritually based. Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . The retreat consists of eight talks, small group discussion about the talks, community and one on one prayer, meditations, and music. Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . Saturday is intended to be a day of small family group discussions Sunday consists of fellowship and attending the institution’s worship service. Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . NO residents should be used as set-up people or servants on a Retreat Weekend except prior to the beginning of the Retreat. The residents should gain experience in community not service !! Being Present

The 1 or 2 Day Retreat…. . The Retreat is an opportunity for spiritual feeding of both the residents and the team. PREPARE FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT, PREPARE FOR A BLESSING !!!! Being Present
