WHY BACK TO BASICS? To achieve minimum level of learning by level 3 students Uniformity in standard To achieve a standard class Creativity in assessment activities Improve learning achievements at all levels* ensuring the achievement of NPE goal NOTE-Teachers mainly use the textbooks to transact the text, conduct given activities and assess children based on questions given in the textbooks which would perhaps not reflect precise criteria of assessment.
Steps for teachers FOR B 2 B PLANNING and Preperation IMPLEMENTATION- classroom/outside/ project ASSESSMENT- to set further targets MONITORING- format available RECORDING- filling tool after assessment ( use sample tool or develop his/her own) -REPORTING- Formative: -Lesson wise reporting as soon as it is completed Summative comprehensive report at the end of every month one copy in the teacher’s diary format and one to the HM - DOCUMENTATION- Maintain a complete portfolio mode record of all learning and assessment activity and strategies used. However the teacher is free to maintain their own manner of records. ULTIMATE GOAL- REACHING INDICATORS (MLL)
INDICATORS- what are they? Indicators are to step forward Indicators are suggestive by nature It is a logical sequence Indicators in EVS are process based
Indicators- WHY? Understanding that learning is a process. Focusing on children’s progression on a learning continuum. Responding positively to diversity and helping all children to participate fully and achieve well. Providing simple guiding points for parents, children and others for understanding the learning by every child. Developing a framework for monitoring, learning and reporting the progress of all children. Learning indicators are expected to provide evidences of learning and other changes taking place in child’s behavior
LESSON DIARY FOR TEACHERS the Lesson Plan format has been simplified integrate the implementation and monitoring Lesson Plan format has been reformatted with the focus on the achievement of ELOs. There are two parts: Part A: Implementation Part B: Monitoring The lesson plan page for each lesson will be followed by the Monitoring Page
DOCUMENTATION AND REPORTING by teachers FOR EVERY LESSON TARGETS TO BE RECORDED % OF ACHIEVEMENT IN THE LEVEL OF STUDENTS AS report month wise an average for the whole class on the learning achievement Level 1 - Bright HOT Level 2 -Average achievers Level 3 - below average achievers ( still needs guidance) Write names of achievers at the end of lesson Levels may vary lesson to lesson Reporting time- At the end of each lesson to HM - AVERAGE once in a month
How to report Parents The learning Progression for each child is to be prepared for reporting to the Parents When? at the end of each term. How? with evidences, showing the progress of the child through monitoring.
HOW TO PREPARE A LESSON PLAN? IDENTIFY LEARNING INDICATOR FOCUSED ON NUMBER OF LEARNING OUTCOMES PLAN ACTIVITIES ALSO TO COMPLEMENT THE TEXT- meet challenges RELECT ON INTEGRITY OF SUBJECTS Expected learning outcome must be mentioned-along with question LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT TEST (formative) AFTER EVERY LESSON 5 -10 MINUTES – written evidence must mention in lesson plan LAT IN SUMMATIVE MANNER AT THE END OF 3 -4 LESSONS PREVIOUSLY TAUGHT Note- Plan sheet should be followed with monitoring sheet
Student learning outcomes (ELOs) as listed in the NCERT Learning Indicators ELOs here means- Knowledge = concepts Skills= Competencies, capabilities Attitudes/Values = Cross Curricular/Integration Practical Skills and Applications for every Lesson = Hands on work ( sensuous)
CLASSROOM Classrooms should be child centred and teachers should be facilitators. All students must get an opportunity to participate and perform individually in pair work, small group or whole class discussion. Students who do not participate or perform well should be identified and remedial measures should be planned for them.
FOCUS Learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be should be focussed in the teaching- learning process. Students should be independent learners who can access and understand relevant information. Activities that give learners an opportunity to create, work with their own hands, develop a sense of work ethics and dignity of labour should be incorporated in the classroom lessons. Children should possess the ability to willingly accept, appreciate and tolerate differences among people, lifestyles and cultures etc. Learning events should be planned in such a way that children can learn to have a sense of self esteem and confidence to adjust with the world around them.
WHAT ACTIVITIES TO DOMINATE - INTERACTIVE- let ask questions Express opinion ( might involve to explore concepts) recitations, dictations, dramatisation, story telling, mental Maths, memorisation or remembering as a study technique The 3 basic R’s + life skills Objective- Learn basic concepts -apply in life situation -grow individual learners, creators, leaders and thinking individuals of tomorrow - Prepare a live and fearless( in respect of clarification of concepts) participant
Integrate with co-scolastic Art, craft, games, music, dance, drama and debate are an integral part of a child’s school life. Teachers can exploit the possibility of integrating the concepts from textual materials with the co-scholastic activities so that learning becomes fun and not a burden. It is time to go back to the basics and learning the core concepts, abilities and skills that ought to be the most integral part of our children’s lives and help them become independent learners , creators , leaders and thinking individuals of tomorrow. We need to link subjects- scholastic and co-scholastic and develop key competencies by using a variety of tools, techniques and technology.
