ISIM CDR § Successfully conducted March 9 -12 at GSFC § Major findings § Highly optimistic schedule which was not closing at the time of CDR § Resolved with new LRD of June 2014 § SI flight deliveries not impacted by new LRD § Observatory thermal issues § NGAS/GSFC has chosen a set of minimally invasive options which result in radiator thermal performance margins above 50% § Options to further reduce IEC backloading are still being explored § Identify responsible person for each critical test § Ongoing, accomplished as part of test planning § A total of 94 RFAs issued § As of today: § 52 responses submitted to the originator § Of those, 29 have been closed 2

Status and Recent Progress - ASICs §Second flight run of ASICs is in process §Teledyne is making excellent progress finalizing the production details, and is working to a schedule that supports deliveries to flight instrument teams beginning this November §Pathfinder units begin assembly this week §First flight article builds beginning in July §Have determined that the minimum common mode voltage requirement needs to be increased §Instrument teams notified, design modifications are in process 4
Status and Recent Progress – NIRSpec Detectors §Pathfinder Detector System testing is progressing well §Delivery to ESA scheduled for mid-July §Flight Detector System is awaiting delivery of flight ASICs §Scheduled for mid-November, supporting a Flight DS delivery of February 2010 §Evaluating options for ASIC common mode voltage requirement change §Plan to implement on the flight FPE prior to flight ASIC delivery §Have two high quality spare SCA candidates in-hand §Selection agreement with ESA pending 8 Mpix Hg. Status and Recent Progress - Microshutters §Flight Microshutter System integration is in progress and on track for September delivery to ESA §Selected flight arrays §MCE boards in testing §Final magnet motor deliveries from CDA imminent §Final shock requirements agreed to with Mission Systems §Plans envelope cryo and launch environments §Qualification testing at Astrium to begin next week Microshutter Array 6
Status and Recent Progress – ISIM Harness Radiator § Critical Design Review scheduled for June 15 at GSFC § Had been postponed due to interface loads issues, which have been resolved § Incorporation of a spherical bearing assembly reduced loads and simplified integration with the backplane § Most drawings complete and out for quote § Working toward December delivery 7
Status and Recent Progress – Harness § Have shipped over 150 harness assemblies in support of § Instrument ETU and flight builds § EGSE (SITS, etc…) § ISIM integration and test preparations § Held a successful NIRSpec Detector Harness Manufacturing Readiness Review on May 5, 2009 § Tayco has improved the application and control of the potting where the cable meets the backshell 8
Status and Recent Progress – ICDH and IRSU § ICDH ETU I&T scheduled to complete in June § Support of instrument thread testing and FSW development will continue § Helping out GLORY… § Failure of their flight spacecraft computer boards has jeopardized the January 2010 launch date § JWST flight assets will be utilized, and can be implemented in time to preserve GLORY’s schedule ICDH § Resultant 3 month impact to ISIM ICDH can be absorbed § IRSU Protoflight boards build in process § Box level I&T to begin in September IRSU 9
Status and Recent Progress – ISIM Software and ITSS § Flight Software § Build IC 11 testing to begin next month § NIRSpec MSS FSW § Began development of MSS C 4. 1 (final build) § NIRSpec DS FSW has transitioned into “maintenance” mode § ITSS § Focus is now shifting to: § Build and test of the Certification Lab at GSFC for ISIM I&T § Build and test of ISIM Electrical Simulators for testbeds at Northrop Grumman § Continuing to support systems in the field in maintenance mode § Continuing to support instrument interface testing 10
Status and Recent Progress – ISIM Electronics Compartment The first cure cycle of the IEC shell is complete. Co-cure inserts and final fiberglass layer fabrication begins in the first week of May. Inserts ready for installation Integration of the prototype baffle test unit completed and the first unit is being tested. 11

Status and Recent Progress – ISIM Optics § LOTS of work on test data sets in support of ISIM cryo performance testing § Extensive analysis efforts in support of test budgets, wavefront sensing, calibrations, stray light, etc… § Cryogenic metrology equipment/plans nearly complete (photogrammetry, laser radar, MATF, IATF, scale bars, etc…) § Optics Summit scheduled for June 16 -19 at the ECO § Agenda/Objectives: § Update on ISIM optical alignment and verification plan, flows, and test error budgets not previously covered § Follow-up on actions from IOTA in 2008 and ISIM CDR Cryogenic metrology hardware 14
