DID YOU KNOW…. . • Ages from 10 – 19 years are eligible to be accepted into the JJAEP who are in school. 22 YOA if SPED • El Paso County only accepts Mandatory Offenses (most felonies- please see handout) • Inter-local Agreements (agreement between ISD’s and JJAEP explaining the JJAEP and School Districts responsibilities), Policies and Procedures, JJAEP Student Code of Conduct, Management Review reports, and Annual TJJD Performance Evaluation reports (statistical report) is approved by the Juvenile Board on a yearly basis and shared with School Board President and Superintendent.

Students must be expelled from a public school under § 37 of the Texas 3. 4. 5. Education Code; A law enforcement report must be submitted by the school district; Only mandatory offenses are accepted into the EL Paso County JJAEP which are only certain felonies (see handout). A Special Education student will require a Manifest Determination (was offense driven by youth’s mental health diagnosis)– ARD. If yes, cannot expel for >45 days.

Required Expulsion Packet Documents Expulsion Notice must include: • date of expulsion hearing • expulsion recommendation specific to JJAEP • outcome of hearing • expulsion term • offense code Expulsion packet must be provided to SISD- Coordinator of Administrative Services (Lupe Lujan 915 -937 -0054) within 2 business days after the final hearing is concluded and decision to expel is upheld.

Special ED Required JJAEP SPED School Records We are requesting for YISD Cesar Chavez Administrators to be invited to the students ARD/MDR meeting. School records must be provided to YISD no later than 3 business days from JJAEP Acceptance. • • • Last ARD Transition Plan 504 Recommendations Manifestation Determination IEP Note: If a JJAEP student is identified as special education, the JJAEP campus will notify the JJAEP Administrator and provide any and all special education documents for the duration of the student’s enrollment in JJAEP.

EXIT OUT OF JJAEP • Students complete expulsion term (up to one year-180 school days); • Students complete probation term (DP or Probation). • Students are removed from JJAEP by the school district through an expulsion review hearing. • Charge is dropped/dismissed at a jury hearing/non-jury hearing (CATY declines or Court dismisses) • Parent withdraws their child from the public school system and places the child in a private school or home school. • Failure to attend school for 30 days (becomes inactive).

JJAEP EXIT AND TRANSITION MEETING • Meeting is designed to successfully transition the JJAEP

JJAEP EXIT AND TRANSITION MEETING • Meeting is designed to successfully transition the JJAEP student back to his home campus and review essential documentation in order to promote long term educational success at his home campus and parent engagement. • JJAEP Campus will coordinate meeting with home campus designees. JJAEP Administrator will inform assigned JPO as soon as meeting is scheduled. JPO or designees must attend Exit Transition Meeting. • • Emphasizes youth’s Exit Transition Plan back to home campus. Review of Post- test scores and compare to pre-test scores Review of exit grades and any credits earned and still needed Praise to family and youth on any gains and positive changes seen while in JJAEP. Positive reinforcement to help maximize progress at home school. • Copies of all documentation to JJAEP administrator
