FACTS ABOUT JUPITER • • • Supreme God in the Roman Mythology pantheon. • Jupiter was also worshipped by the way of the lapides slices, which is a collection of small stones or pebbles, which were kept on the Capitoline Hill. • • All throughout Rome, Jupiter was the central cult figure and many ceremonies took place at the temple. Known as the Roman god of the heavens and sky. He was considered to be in charge of the laws and social order in Rome. He was the chief member of the Capitoline Triad along with Juno and Minerva. The Capitoline Triad was a group of 3 deities who were worshipped in ancient Roman religion on a temple in Capitoline Hill. All 3 of these gods had the temple built for them. Jupiter is believed to have originated from Greek Mythology from the Greek god Zeus.
FACTS ABOUT JUPITER • Roman citizens swore to an oath to Jupiter in their courts of law saying “By Jove” to show that the words were truthful. • The temple is the place where all sorts of arrangement that went down here like official offerings were made, treaties were signed, wars were declared, and the generals of the Roman army came to give their thanks. • Jupiter’s attribute is the lightning bolt and the eagle is both his symbol and his messenger and he is the protector of ancient Latin cities. • Jupiter had many wives that gave birth to children and they were, Mai who gave birth to Mercury, the god of commerce; by Dione she gave birth to Venus, goddess of love; Diana gave birth to Apollo- god of the sun, and Diana goddess of the moon. It is known and believed that Jupiter is the father of Minerva, goddess of Wisdom
