FBI Programs: Counterterrorism • The FBI’s top priority: protect the United States from terrorist attacks • Investigates international and domestic terrorism incidents • Supports state and local police in Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs) • Terrorist Screening Center & Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate
FBI Programs: Counterintelligence • Protecting the United States against foreign intelligence operations • Investigates espionage of all types, misuse of classified information • Famous spies: Robert Hannsen, FBI Special Agent
FBI Programs: Cyber Security • Lead agency for investigating cyber attacks for terrorist, intelligence, or criminal purposes • Works with private companies and public agencies to protect and defend against computer intrusions • Protects communities and individuals from criminals who seek to defraud, steal or victimize them

FBI Services • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) – Provides state-of-the-art tools and services to law enforcement, national security and intelligence community partners, and the general public. • FBI Laboratory – One of the largest and most comprehensive crime labs in the world, using science and technology to protect the nation and support law enforcement, intelligence, military, and forensic science partners.
Operational Support • Operational Technology Division (OTD) – Develops and deploys technology-based solutions to enable and enhance the FBI’s intelligence, national security, and law enforcement operations. • Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG) – The FBI’s specialized response group, providing expertise in crisis management, hostage rescue, surveillance and aviation, hazardous devices mitigation, crisis negotiations, behavioral analysis, and tactical operations.
Opportunities for Students and Recent Graduates
Student Opportunities: Honors Internship Program • A ten (10) week, full-time, paid internship program – Runs June through August • Students work at FBI headquarters and across all 56 field offices • Side-by-side with FBI employees, participating in real projects and operations • The FBI seeks students from all backgrounds and educational disciplines to participate in the Honors Internship Program
Recent Graduate Opportunities: Collegiate Hiring Initiative • Entry-level job opportunities for students graduating between December 2014 and September 2017. • Five career paths to choose from: – – – Operational Support Technician (field offices) Human Resources Specialist (HQ) Personnel Security Specialist (HQ) Management and Program Analyst (HQ) STEM Positions (nationwide)
Honors Internship Program and Collegiate Hiring Initiative: Locations • Highest number of positions are available at FBI headquarters in Washington, D. C. ; Quantico, Virginia; Clarksburg, West Virginia; and Winchester, Virginia. • Students choose their top three locations on their applications – Collegiate Hiring Initiative applicants choose their top three career paths as well

Eligibility and Application
Student Eligibility: Honors Internship Program Applicants must: • Be a full-time undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) or graduate student at an accredited college/university • Have a GPA of 2. 95 on a 4. 0 scale – Students with no GPA must have received a 1500 out of 2400, or 1000 out of 1600, on their SATs or 21 on their ACT
Recent Grad Eligibility: Collegiate Hiring Initiative Applicants must: • Have been a full-time undergraduate, or Ph. D student at an accredited college/university • Be graduating/Have graduated between December 2014 and September 2017 • Have a GPA of 2. 95 on a 4. 0 scale – Students with no GPA must have received a 1500 out of 2400, or 1000 out of 1600, on their SATs or 21 on their ACT
Automatic Disqualifiers • • • Non-U. S. citizenship A felony conviction Failure of an FBI polygraph examination Failure of an FBI-administered urinalysis drug test Default on a student loan insured by the US government Failure to register with Selective Service System (males only, exceptions apply) • Use illegal drugs in violation of the FBI Employment Drug Policy
What to Emphasize on Application • • Writing – don’t have errors; it must ‘make sense’ Project Management/Leader examples – results important Leadership positions – clubs, non-profits, sports…anything! Team participation – how did you contribute?
