Julia Child had many jobs, but what she was known for was her cooking. August 15, 1912 was the day Julia was born. Her birth name was Julia Carolyn Mc. Williams, She was the oldest of the three children. Julia graduated from Smith College in 1934, where she played basketball.
Julia volunteered with the American Red Cross and after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, she joined the Office of Strategic Services known as the OSS. The first year she worked there typing thousands of names on white note cards used to keep track of officers.
Julia met her husband in Asia and got married September 1, 1946. Her husband’s name was Paul Cushing Child.
Julia and Paul moved to France where Julia learned French Cuisine at the Cordon Bleu cooking school. She did six months of training there with private lessons with Master Chef Max Bugnard.
Julia had many TV shows and her most famous show was The French Chef. Julia got a prestigious George Foster Peabody Award in 1964 and an Emmy award in 1966.
August 13, 2004, two days before her 92 birthday, Julia died in her home.
In August 2008, the National Archives declassified 750, 000 pages of personal files. The documents revealed that in fact Julia Child was a spy.
