“Listen up me buckos!” bellowed Judy Moody, known to her pirate crew as Mad

“Listen up me buckos!” bellowed Judy Moody, known to her pirate crew as Mad Molly. “Gather yer Sea Legs. We be nearin’ the island soon. We’ve traveled many miles and crossed many oceans but it all won’t be for nothin. ’ Long John Silver’s hidden his stash of silver somewhere, and we be the first to find the booty. I’ve outsmarted Scurvy Sam last year and found his doubloons, and I will do it again this year. Long John Silver’s got nothin’ against this smart urchin. Yarr. So let’s weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen. We’ve got treasure to find. ” “Aye, Captain!” the crew replied. And with that, everyone hoisted the anchor and sailed on.

Twenty winks later, the crew washed ashore and was ready to explore. But nothing

Twenty winks later, the crew washed ashore and was ready to explore. But nothing could prepare them for the shock that was to come. “Shiver me timbers!” cried Mad Molly. “What be this trickery? ” There, on the first patch of dry land was a big red X on the hot, hot sand. X

“If this is a joke, I’m not kraken up!” Adventurous Arr-thur complained. “Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! I

“If this is a joke, I’m not kraken up!” Adventurous Arr-thur complained. “Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! I thought the point of a treasure hunt was to y’know… hunt for treasure. Not have the treasure hunt us, ” added Nemo the Supremo.

The crew was about to head back to the ship when suddenly Mad Molly

The crew was about to head back to the ship when suddenly Mad Molly spotted something in the horizon. “Heave To!” she shouted and the crew came to a stop. “One of you landlubbers fetch me my spyglass. ” Frank the Plank scurried over to Mad Molly, telescope in hand. Mad Molly held it up to her good eye, the one that wasn’t covered with an eyepatch. She looked to the left. She looked to the right. What was in her line of sight?

“Yo Ho Ho, me hearty crew! Don’t despair. There’s still adventure in the air.

“Yo Ho Ho, me hearty crew! Don’t despair. There’s still adventure in the air. This treasure game is still alive. X is what me spyglass spies… one, two, three, four, five. ” Sure enough, once the crew started walking just around the bend, there were indeed five more red Xs …along with a few odds and ends. Go to the next slide and see if you can find all of the Xs.

“But what does this mean? ” Suzy Sparrow was puzzled. “Arrr-e there really five

“But what does this mean? ” Suzy Sparrow was puzzled. “Arrr-e there really five treasure chests we have to dig up? ” Casey Cannon added. “Blimey!” “Don’t hang the jib just yet, ” said Mad Molly. After hearing Mad Molly’s command, Casey Cannon immediately stopped frowning. “This be another pirate trick. Long John Silver’s only got one treasure chest from the deep blue sea. And it is here for you and me. Come on, we’re a couple of Old Salts. I’m sure we can figure this out. ” So, the experienced sailors put their pirate hats together and thought about what the Xs could mean.

“Avast ye!” Nemo the Supremo suddenly cried to get the rest of the crew

“Avast ye!” Nemo the Supremo suddenly cried to get the rest of the crew to pay attention. “I have solved the mystery. The number of Xs in the sand tells us how many paces we need to walk to find the next clue. ” “But which way do we walk? ” asked Adventurous Arrr-thur. Nemo the Supremo had an answer for that too. “Take a look at the picture again. Do you see more Xs on the left or on the right? ” “The right!” shouted the crew. Because pirates are always right.

Five paces later, the crew stumbled upon a row of storage casks filled to

Five paces later, the crew stumbled upon a row of storage casks filled to the brim with food. It looked like a feast fit for a pirate king. “Shiver me timbers!” everyone cried. But Mad Molly thought something was fishy. “Heave to, mateys. Long John Silver didn’t leave all this food for ye. This be another clue. Look. ” There, tied in a perfect sailor’s knot to the last cask on the right, was a rolled-up piece of paper. Mad Molly unfurled the paper and read: “Tars, the Hairy Willy hides yer next clue. Isn’t that silly? ” “Hairy Willy? I’ve never heard of such a thing. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! Why is Long John Silver running a rig on us? ” Frank the Plank complained. Mad Molly studied the casks a little closer. “I don’t think the pirate is playing a joke on us. I think this is another puzzle we need to solve. Look at how many casks there are. And a lot of them are filled with the same food. But there are only 7 casks. Which means one of the casks doesn’t have another that matches. Savvy? ” “Now I understand, ” said Frank the Plank.

Click on each cask from left to right to see what is hidden inside.

Click on each cask from left to right to see what is hidden inside. How many times does each food appear? The one type of food that does not have a match will tell us what hairy willy is.

“Hairy Willy is dried fish! How did pirates ever eat this stuff? ” said

“Hairy Willy is dried fish! How did pirates ever eat this stuff? ” said Mad Molly in disbelief. “Maybe they used tartar sauce, ” said Suzy Sparrow, pulling out a large bottle of tartar sauce from the bottom of the hairy willy-filled cask. There, taped to the front, was another clue: This symbol, invented by Richard Vorley, is widely seen on flags. It is the most popular symbol used to identify pirate ships. Because its image is so frightening, pirates loved having it on their flags to intimidate their opponents into surrendering. Its initials are J. R. Unscramble the mystery word: ylol. J greo. R

“It’s the Jolly Roger! Now we just have to look for that flag and

“It’s the Jolly Roger! Now we just have to look for that flag and that should be where our next clue is hiding, ” said Mad Molly with confidence. The crew kept searching until Nemo the Supremo with his supreme eyesight shouted “There! 15 paces to the right. Our flagpole. ” Mad Molly snorted. “I remember when my brother thought a flagpole was the answer to the first clue when we did this treasure hunt together last year. We were such scallywags!” Sure enough, waving in the breeze and flying high underneath the sun was indeed a flag. Yes, that’s the one!

“Wow! No wonder pirates liked having the Jolly Roger on their flags. It makes

“Wow! No wonder pirates liked having the Jolly Roger on their flags. It makes them look tough!” Suzy Sparrow exclaimed. Mad Molly was too busy admiring the flag from above that she wasn’t paying attention to what was in front of her until Adventurous Arrr-thur gave a warning. “Watch out, Mad Molly! Sail ho!” But it wasn’t a ship that was in front of Mad Molly—it was a killick. “Ahoy! What’s this? ” For on that stone anchor was another clue: 50 “All hands on deck. We’ve got a math problem to solve, ” stated Mad Molly. “Aye!” Casey Cannon let out a cheer. “Math be me favorite subject. All Hand Hoy! Everybody, get on deck and help me solve this problem. ”

“So the answer is 50. Does this mean we have to walk another 50

“So the answer is 50. Does this mean we have to walk another 50 paces? ” asked Frank the Plank. “If it will bring ye to the treasure, it’s worth it. Come on, me buckos. Heave ho!” commanded Mad Molly. 50 paces later…and still no loot. Instead, the crew found somebody’s old boot. “Yar. Long John Silver left his boot on the ground? Tis where the treasure hides? Let’s peek inside. ” Nemo the Supremo decided.

Once again, Nemo’s supremo eyesight saved the day! Inside Long John’s boot was one

Once again, Nemo’s supremo eyesight saved the day! Inside Long John’s boot was one final clue: Pirate ships are sloops, brigantines, and barques. But inside the ____________ is where the treasure’s parked. Unscramble this word to find the hidden treasure: roone. Sch

“Avast ye, mateys. We found the Schooner ship! But I still don’t see the

“Avast ye, mateys. We found the Schooner ship! But I still don’t see the coffer. Where is Long John Silver hiding his treasure chest? ” Mad Molly and her crew were very puzzled.

Suddenly a loud voice bellowed, “Fire in the hole!” Everyone in Mad Molly’s crew,

Suddenly a loud voice bellowed, “Fire in the hole!” Everyone in Mad Molly’s crew, including Mad Molly herself, jumped as a great big BOOM suddenly filled the air. Was the ship under attack? But their fears instantly turned to joy as large silver coins were raining down from the cannon, sparkling brightly like diamonds in the sun. Aye! Mad Molly, her crew, and you had unburied Long John Silver’s silver. When Mad Molly returned home from her marrr-velous adventure, she remembered a very important article about being a pirate. And so, she shared her treasure with her friends and younger brother, Scurvy Stink, by taking them all out for ice cream at Screamin’ Mimi’s. After all, sharing your treasure is the pirate’s rule!
