Joseph Nicéphore Niépce ▪ Born march 7, 1765 and died July 5, 1833 He was born into a wealthy French family in the city of Chalon. He was in the military for a while, but then after his military career he went to live with his brother Claud, and they became inventing partners. Not only did they create an internal combustion engine in 1807, they worked together in many other things. Then from 1816 -1826 only Joseph persuaded working on the camera. Finally, in 1826 he created the worlds first camera along with the worlds first photo.

The Worlds First Camera ▪ Joseph invented the worlds first camera in 1826. People discovered the first photo he ever took, which is a view from outside his window. Ever since that first photo people named him the creator of the first camera. The science behind it is light and bitumen. He would get a metal plate up inside a box and coat it with bitumen. Then he would expose it to light, and after 8 hours the light would react with the bitumen and create an image.

Legacy Left Behind ▪ Joseph not only created the first photograph, but he paved the way for all the other inventors to follow. He gave them hints as to what to preside with and how to create better cameras for the rest of the world.

What To Think About ▪ So the next time you take a picture be thankful that someone was smart enough to create a way to capture a moment in time, and that back then it wasn’t as simple and easy as a click of the button; and keep clicking away because maybe someday your pictures will go down in history just as Joseph did.
