Attendance § Attendance-“Make Every Day Count” District/campus initiative to improve attendance. § Schedule medical and other appointments outside school hours § Students may begin to arrive to school from 7: 30 to 7: 44. Students who arrive after 7: 45 a. m. are tardy and will need to report to the office for a tardy slip. § Notes from parents/doctors must be received within 48 hours for an absence to be excused.

This school year students will be graded on a percentage scale 0 -100%. 69% or below is a failing grade. Students will be able to redo any assignments they scored a 69 or lower on. A newsletter with procedures on the issue will be coming home shortly.

• Each student will have a John Drugan agenda that will be taken home daily and returned to school daily (Monday thru Friday). Children will write their homework assignment in their agendas. After students have completed their homework, parents are asked to check their child’s homework and sign or initial the homework’s assignment in Agenda. • Spelling and Reading homework will be given on a daily basis Monday-Thursday. All students must read for 30 minutes a night. Math will be given two times a week. • Dragon behavior folders will be sent home every Friday to be reviewed and signed by parents. Your child is responsible for bringing their behavior folder back every Monday.

STAAR Testing §STAAR testing will be taking place in the spring time during April. §You will receive more information regarding the test later on in the school year. § 3 rd grade students are tested in Mathematics and Reading.

• Royal blue, UTEP orange or white polo shirts are required by the end of next week August 10, 2012 for new students. • Khaki or black pants, shorts, or skort bottoms are required. • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

§ When: Begins the First day of school from 7: 30 -7: 45. § Where: In the Elementary homeroom classroom or 1 st period for Middle School. § Who: All students are able to eat and teachers who are helping coordinate the breakfast in the classroom.

§ Campus personal must work together and communicate any concerns. § Students are allowed to select their breakfast items. Note: Students may not take two (2) of the same item.

OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program § Olweus is a district wide initiative for the prevention of bullying. It is the most researched and best known programs developed and available today. It was developed by Dr. Dan Olweus of Norway § The goal of OBPP is to change the norms around bullying behavior and to restructure the school setting itself so that bullying is less likely to occur or be rewarded.
