Step 2: DEVELOP PARTNERSHIPS • Within DOC (Prisons, OTS, Others) • With Other State Agencies (DOL Apprenticeship Program, DOT, OSP) • Trade Associations (Training, Job Fairs) • Community Colleges • Private, Non-Profit Organizations • Private Employers

We Don’t Have Time To Reinvent The Wheel • Apprenticeship programs can be a vital part of a transitional program designed to prepare inmates for their release from prison.

Apprenticeship is Ready Made • Nationally Recognized Credentials with the US Department of Labor • Established Occupational Competencies by DOL • Established Training Goals and Measures • Established Recordkeeping System • Ensures Quality Training • Improves Productivity • Reduces Turnover

What is Apprenticeship • Skilled on-the-job-training – A formal system of training that combines on -the-job training with related technical instruction – Requires a minimum of 2000 hours up to 10000 hours – Takes new employee from apprentice to journeyman status

Inmates: Work and Learn under supervision of skilled craftsmen Attend Technical Classroom Instruction Journeyman Certificate for Completers May receive credit for previous training with employer
