JOHARI WINDOW The Johari Window provides a way to look at the self. There are things you know about yourself and things you don’t know. There are things other people know about yourself and things they don’t know.

AREA #1 – OPEN SELF • You know and others know • Represents your

AREA #2 – BLIND SELF • Others know but you don’t know • Information

Why should I self disclose? ? • By self disclosing, an individual increases the free area and decreases the size of the hidden area. If hidden area is decreased then the unknown area is likewise decreased. Such disclosing on the part of an individual makes feedback easier by others and, therefore, the blind area and unknown area are also reduced in size. • SELF DISCLOSURE – can then be seen as a means to aiding an individual in learning more about the self.
