Certificates vs. Associates Degrees • A certificate is a short course of study, typically 1 -2 semesters and trains students in a specific practical skill. • An associates degree should take 2 years to complete and provides both theoretical and practical knowledge of a given program area.
TCSG Accessibility • Alternatives to standard testing for placing students in college for Fall 2018 • New admissions application in development to streamline admissions process • Initiatives to develop co-enrollment in adult education and credit courses to add a skills component
Admissions and Placement Modifications to the Technical College System of Georgia’s admissions and placement process have resulted in a 50% decease in the use of Accuplacer from Academic Year 2017 to Academic Year 2018.
TCSG Minimum Placement Requirements • Accept SAT, ACT, Milestone ELA and Accuplacer scores • PSAT Scores taken on the new version (post March 2016) • HOPE GPA of 2. 6 or higher, for 11 th and 12 th Graders* • Test score age limit has been removed from policy • Entry Level Workforce Certificate - Admissions requirement of a 2. 0 minimum High School GPA*
