Considerations in choosing and using training prompts • Always allow the worker the opportunity to independently complete a step before intervening with an instructional prompt • Interrupt errors with the least intrusive prompt possible before progressing to the next most intrusive prompt
• Choose a systematic prompting hierarchy that is individualized to the worker, the job, and the job environment • Choose prompts that are easily faded – know how to fade a prompt before you use it. • Choose prompts that are the least stigmatizing and the most natural.
SOFT • Show - how to do things slowly, one step at a time • Often - repeat what and how to do things • Friendly - help you want to receive is the kind to give • Timely – reminders of what to do next keep the job running smoothly
Be very clear about how you want the job done. Find out what the other person needs to get the job done. If there is a delay, ask what the problem is.
