Why is she niche? Joanne Shaw Taylor is a niche artist because she makes blues music. Blues is a niche genre of music, it is not advertised, it is not featured on itunes, and it is not played on mainstream radio stations. Joanne Shaw Taylor (born 1986, England) is a British blues guitarist and singer, who was discovered by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics at the age of 16. She has released two studio albums to date; a third, entitled Almost Always Never, was released on 17 September 2012. The British music publication, Blues Matters!, called Taylor "the new face of the blues.
How is she marketed? Joanne has her own website, nothing fancy just it is a very plain and simple website. It doesn’t look like a lot of money was spent of making it, its has dull colours they colours are not very bright and lively this may be related to her music. Joanne has her own youtube channel for extra promotion She has a lot of views on her videos so this particular source of promotion is working very well for her. She also goes on tour to promote herself, she has quite a lot of tour dates which shows that she is on demand.
Where is her music most widely available? You can purchase Joanne’s album on the high street, in HMV but that is the only high street shop where her album is available for purchase. You can also purchase her album online via amazon. Joanne’s album can not be purchased in supermarkets like Tesco and Asda where they have only a small collection of music, because that collection is most likely going to be songs in the charts.
How is she received by the public? My first impression of Joanne is that she is very relax, she looks natural, calm, she looks quite boring compared to all the females in the charts. She looks like her music is will be very dull and of a slow tempo. I found two reviews to get a view of some of her supporters, the first review is on her album and the second review is from her concerts. Both reviews are very positive, they both compare her to other successful blues artists
Where can her music be downloaded? Joanne’s music can be downloaded on itunes, but the chances of her being featured on the chart list/ top downloads list is very low
