Readers cannot understand what they are reading without knowing what most of the words mean. What Is It? A vocabulary word map is a visual organizer that helps students engage with and think about new terms or concepts in several ways. How Does It Work? Two ways to provide opportunities for independent reading are reading workshops and literature circles which allows the children to read self-selected books that interest them and to learn words in context.
