Enriching and developing students vocabularies should be a major goal in each academic discipline Vocabulary is very important to reading comprehension. Readers cannot understand what they are reading without knowing what most of the words mean. Critical reading is the ability to draw useful information from a book and often does not get the emphasis it needs. Reading vocabulary-the words we need to know to understand what we read.

The books they choose to read should be appropriate for their reading levels. If they choose a book that is too easy or too hard, they will learn very few new words.
